At Giveacar, we specialise in two things: ensuring your car is disposed of according to the highest environmental standards, and making sure the money your car raises goes to a good cause.
If you donate a car to Giveacar, we will first establish whether your car is ready to be scrapped straight away, or whether it could potentially make more money at a salvage auction. If your car is ready to be scrapped then we will get in touch with our collection agents. They will give you a call to arrange collection, and will take your car to the nearest scrap yard. The price of scrap metal varies depending on what part of the country you’re in, but the average amount raised for charity from a scrap car is around £80.
If your car is newer or high-value, then we will arrange for it to be collected by our car salvage partners, Bluecycle. Your car will then be sold at a car salvage auction. Our salvage auctions are where we raise the most money on cars, with cars normally selling for a couple of hundred pounds, but sometimes getting much more. Our biggest fundraising car so far was a Vauxhall VX220, which raised £4,771.88 for United Through Sport in July.
Giveacar is a social enterprise, so we only take a small percentage from the sale of cars to cover our administrative costs. The rest goes straight to any charity of your choice. With over 180000 registered charities in the UK, you’ve got a wide selection to choose from. Children’s charities, animal charities, environmental charities, human rights charities… There’s a very broad range of charities out there, but we’ve tried to make it easier by organising our affiliated charities into groups. Choose your charity, and let us know. After we have paid the charity, we will then send you a receipt to let you know how much your car raised for your selected charity.
With so many worthwhile charities to choose from, it’s difficult to make a decision as to which cause your car should raise money for. Whichever car you decide to choose, here at Giveacar we will make sure your old car makes as much money as possible for charity.
