Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR) is a voluntary organisation, which provides specialist resource to the emergency services to locate missing vulnerable and at risk children and adults. A missing person may be deemed vulnerable and at risk from death or injury due to age, physical and/or mental ability, circumstances surrounding the disappearance, location and/or weather conditions. Searches can be conducted in urban or rural areas and will normally be initiated by the Police.
WILSAR primarily cover Wiltshire, but we also regularly assist neighbouring teams in Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire and ANY Search organisation requesting help, if possible. We are one of 32 teams affiliated to ALSAR (Association of Lowland Search and Rescue).
WILSAR maintains an operational team of around 50 members, initially trained as Search Technicians to ALSAR nationally required standards. WILSAR currently have 14 fully trained, certified and equipped Defra 2 level flood responders, 1 swift water rescue technician with a further 4 in training. Team members have the opportunity to continue training as Team Leaders, Bank Search, Trackers, Navigators, Kayakers, Mountain Bike searchers, Search Planners and Search Managers – one of whom is on duty at all times and will arrange the call out of the team via SMS messaging service. Volunteers with the charity are available for search 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
WILSAR receives no statutory funding and is therefore reliant on public donations and grants to maintain its control vehicle and trailer and to provide training and essential equipment to volunteers.
Giveacar are proud supporters of WILSAR and all the hard work they do to locate missing children and adults. If you’re planning to scrap or sell your car, give a car instead to help WILSAR continue the excellent service they provide.
