Welwyn Hatfield Women’s Refuge & Support Services (WHWR) provides refuge accommodation to women fleeing domestic violence with, or without, their children. The Refuge operates a helpline and provides an outreach service for any women in the district who are, or have been, victims of domestic violence.
Support services include safety plans, legal, mental health, wellbeing counselling and advocacy.
Key workers assist women in finding a future safe home and resettlement plan when leaving refuge.
Child case workers support mothers in finding schools. Child development specialists help children regain their childhood by overcoming the trauma of witnessing or experiencing domestic abuse. Children are also helped to build healthy relationships and resilience.
The organisation empowers, and help women upskill through training and workshops to improve their life chances and enhance their career opportunities.
WHWR works in partnership with circa 23 other organisations for a person centred service for improved outcomes to enable women and children lead a happier and safer life.
