Beams is a Kent based charity that supports disabled children and their families.
The disabled children and young people who access our services will typically have one or more complex health needs, physical or sensory impairment, challenging behaviousr, Autism or severe ADHD.
Our work is split into four main areas: Family Advice, Short Break, Dragons Retreat Respite unit and Direct Payments.
The family advice service ensures parents and carers receive the right information at the right time in order to help them make the best choices for their disabled child. We provide a telephone advice line, parent support groups, home visits, and parenting programmes.
The short breaks service offers a range of activities for disabled children and young people, these include specialist holiday play schemes, after school clubs, day trips, and sibling clubs. We provide services focused on the young person’s needs.
Dragons retreat respite unit is a residential children’s home providing overnight care. We work closely with Social Services, Schools and Healthcare professionals. The unit includes 6 fully equipped bedrooms, a fully fitted wet room, a hydro bath and sensory room. This unit gives the chance for children to have a break and the parents to have some time out and prepare for the week ahead.
Direct Payments is a county wide service that helps the parents purchase their disabaled child’s assessed needs. This gives parents the choice and flxibility on the type of support their child gets. We also offer a payroll services who have to employ careers for their child.
Beams aims to offer a complete service for disabled children and have been a lifeline to many families, who have to deal with very challenging circumstances. We have to raise over £1.6 million a year to do this through funding, the community and other donations.
We would very much like to be a chosen partner with yourselves and look forward to a prosperous partnership.
