WaveLength is the only UK wide charity aiming to tackle loneliness and isolation through the provision of radios and televisions. For over 70 years we have helped those who need the contact, comfort and companionship that technology can bring into the home.
Today, televisions and radios are such a normal part of life that it’s easy to think that everyone in the UK can have one. But our beneficiaries’ incomes are too small to stretch beyond essentials such as food and heating. Many are confined to their homes for reasons beyond their control, with severe health problems or disabilities preventing them from taking an active part in their communities. For the isolated and lonely, televisions and radios are a primary point of connection to the outside world and can be a major source of wellbeing.
Those that we help tell us that the companionship and contact they get from their televisions and radios is invaluable. Our equipment’s been described as ‘a lifeline’, ‘my company,’ and ‘my only source of enjoyment.’
