The Talking Trust is committed to improving the lives of Children and Young People who have severe communication disabilities affecting their ability to acquire education and develop the skills necessary for independent living. Frequently these difficulties are found in conjunction with physical and medical difficulties.
St Mary’s was founded in 1922 as a special school for disabled children by medical professionals who wanted to provide the best possible start for young people who then had few opportunities to access education with support. It has continued this ethos in the work of The Talking Trust. We are a leading registered charity who provide non-maintained residential education and therapy for children and young people aged 7 – 19 who have severe speech, language and/or communication difficulties. Almost without exception our children and young people also have complex needs which may include medical issues, learning difficulties and physical disabilities.
Our staff at St Mary’s are dedicated and highly skilled professionals that work together to provide first class education, a comprehensive range of therapy, and the highest levels of nursing and care all provided in a supportive environment. We help our pupils realise their optimum potential in every aspect of their lives through providing individually tailored curriculum based education and care in a nurturing environment, and giving opportunities to practise and develop independence and life skills in both formal and informal environments.
