We are a friendly Reform Jewish community based in Wanstead London.
Our synagogue is housed in the beautifully restored Grade II* listed building that was once part of the old Wanstead Hospital complex and prior to that the Merchant Seaman’s Orphan’s Asylum. We have a growing community of over 400 Full Members and over 30 Associate Members plus around 110 children.
Sukkat Shalom offers its members the following services:
– Weekly Shabbat Morning services some designed with the family and young children in mind.Friday night service a month which is followed by a Chavurah meal.
– We celebrate all of the festivals and hold a Communal Seder every year.
– We have Cheder (Religion School) classes for our children on a Sunday morning and adult education classes weekly. Some sessions are held in conjunction with our neighbour synagogues including our Text Study class, Hebrew classes, Conversion classes. & Bar/Bat Mitzvah tuition.
– We hold Lunch & Learn sessions, social events. i.e Quizes, cabaret nights, musical concerts.
The funding of the synagogue is mainly from subscriptions from members and donation.
