Orchard Vale Trust is a charity based in Somerset and has been operating for over 30 years. We support adults with learning disabilities to live life to the full by providing personalised support and enabling independence through a number of different projects throughout the community.
Our projects are tailored to their participants. We listen to what people want and design our projects around them. Most activities involve learning new skills, potential qualifications and as much socialising as possible. This has all proven valuable in increasing independence, confidence and wellbeing.
Our newest project involves a Community Gardening Service led by adults with learning disabilities and involves reaching out to vulnerable members of the community who may not be able to care for their gardens, due to age, illness or disability. Skills in horticulture, as well as Level 1 qualifications are available, and participants are seen as service ‘providers’ rather than ‘needers’. This helps break down stigma of adults with learning disabilities in the work place. This project has already made a remarkable difference to isolated local community members, who benefit from the skilled garden work as well as a befriending service.
Giveacar and its donors are proud supporters of Orchard Vale, as it provides supports for adults with learning difficulties. If you’re planning to scrap or sell your car, give a car instead to help vulnerable members of the community increase their confidence and wellbeing. Do a good deed and help them continue their hard work by making Orchard Vale the charity you support when you donate your car to charity.
