More about Motor Neurone Disease Association

Motor neurone disease is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work. MND can leave people locked into a failing body unable to move, talk, swallow and eventually breathe. It kills a third of people within a year and more than half within two years of diagnosis.

MND has no cure.

Six people are diagnosed with Motor neurone disease (MND) every day in the UK, and six people die from MND every day, with up to 5,000 people currently living with various stages of the condition.

People with MND, their families and carers are at the heart of everything the charity does.

  • MND Association improves care and support for people with MND, their families and carers.
  • The charity funds and promotes research that leads to new understanding and treatments, and brings us closer to a cure for MND.
  • It campaigns and raises awareness so the needs of people with MND and everyone who cares for them are recognised and addressed by wider society.
