Young children positively fizz with ideas. But early in life, we begin to lose our confidence and freedom to explore, to take risks and experiment. As we grow older, we often tuck our creativity away and get on with our ‘real’ lives. But wouldn’t our world be a much better place if we all brought imagination and exploration into every part of our lives?At The Studio Theatre, we aim to help everyone (re)connect with their unique zone of creative genius (because it’s different for everybody), to grow in confidence and to find their voice.
THE PLAY’S THE THING!
Being playful gives us the ability to explore and do things for the sheer delight of just doing them. Playfulness is spontaneous, fun, lively. With a playful attitude, learning and discovery are fun, and hard work just flies by.
Play may be the work of childhood, but it is also the place where the greatest learning occurs and we aim to bring it into everything we do. Because playfulness reduces stress and brightens lives. It connects people and builds community. It makes for happy people. And we’re all about happy people.
GO WITH THE FLOW
In a world where only change is certain, holding fixed ideas about what and how the Studio Theatre should be may make it hard for us to respond to new opportunities. So we want to be flexible and responsive, to be prepared to explore and engage with new ideas and inspirations.
We’ll listen, understand and respond to the needs of the student body and work with them to co-create an amazing body of work. Are you excited yet? We are!
TRUST OPENS UP NEW AND UNIMAGINED POSSIBILITIES
We’ve pinched that from Robert C. Solomon, but we don’t think he’d have minded. If we are to risk, we need to feel safe, respected, unashamed. We have to be able to make mistakes without ridicule and make successes without backbiting.

YOU’RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME
It’s so easy to have our lives shaped by consumerism, government, media – both social and anti-social – and the world ‘out there’. We reckon the world is a better place when people have developed the confidence to make up their own minds, come to their own decisions, self-start and take charge of their own destiny and potential.
Basically, we want to encourage people to be their own boss without necessarily setting up a business (though that’s cool too).
