Meningitis is a very real threat to the lives of thousands of people in the UK each year. Every day nine people are struck down by bacterial meningitis, and one in ten of them will die. Around a quarter will be left with serious after-effects including multiple limb amputations, blindness, deafness and cerebral palsy. Over 1,000 babies under the age of one become ill with meningitis and septicaemia every year. The illness kills more children in the UK than any other infectious disease, and no other disease kills faster.
Meningitis Research Foundation funds research in the UK and abroad to prevent meningitis and septicaemia, and to improve survival rates and outcomes. We promote education and awareness to reduce death and disability, and give support to people affected.
Worldwide, meningitis and septicaemia kill 1,000 people a day. Your support would help us wipe this disease off the face of the globe.
