We are a children and young adults’ hospice in Oxford providing expert medical care to young people with life-shortening conditions. We also provide practical support, counselling and bereavement support to the entire family for as long as it is needed.
Helen & Douglas House has the time and expertise to care for seriously ill children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and support their families. The two hospice houses offer specialist symptom and pain management, medically-supported short breaks and end-of-life care, as well as counselling and practical support for the whole family.
Helen House for children opened in 1982 as the world’s first hospice for children and Douglas House, specifically for young adults aged 16 to 35, opened in 2004. Helen House and Douglas House are based in Oxford and support around 300 families each year from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Wiltshire, and parts of London. We receive very little support from statutory donations and rely on people in the community to raise around 85% of the £5 million needed each year.
