Charity Name: Afrikaya

Afrikaya is a UK charity working in The Gambia. It’s current project is to complete the building of environmentally-friendly nursery school, community medical centre & adult training centre on recently purchased land in New Yundum, The Gambia, West Africa.
Afrikaya own the land [60m by 30m] to build the school on [worth over £10,000]; have built a perimeter wall & a building housing a bore hole, plumbing & solar powered pump; a solar panel; enough eco-friendly bricks for the entire school build.
There is no government-provided education for children under 8 in The Gambia.
Without early years learning, children are unable to access primary education at 8.
Incorporated into school build plans, it will provide medical care for minor ailments – available to all nursery students attending the school. Post natal care will be available to the community, including outside school hours. Community nurse/midwife is a member of the PTA. The school buildin will also provide an adult skills centre [out of school hours].
Afrikaya are working in partnership with the local community and are also incorporated as a charity in The Gambia.

We have been absolutely delighted to take part in the Giveacar scheme. We have had several cars donated to us through this scheme and it provides us with an additional way to riase very much needed funds to continue improving the lives of animals in The Gambia.
