Alzheimer’s Research UK – Dementia Action Week

Thanks to Giveacar, we were able to raise £15,541 through donated cars last year for vital dementia research. Giveacar’s support means more to us than ever, since people with dementia have been hit hardest by COVID-19. The roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines shows that breakthroughs are possible when attention, resources and funding are directed towards medical research. With the right support, we can do the same for dementia. 850,000 people are estimated to be living with dementia in the UK, with this figure set to reach one million by 2025.

So this Dementia Action Week (17-23 May), we’re talking to our supporters about how they can take action and help make breakthroughs possible in dementia research. At Alzheimer’s Research UK, our vision is a world free from the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia. Our mission is to bring about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025. Through the support of our incredible partners such as Giveacar, we are able to continue making huge strides in dementia research, and life-changing treatments are in our sights.

Donating your car can make a huge difference, no matter how much it’s worth. For example:

  • £125 will provide the tools for scientists to map 5000 genes in minute detail, identifying targets for the development of new treatments.
  • £200 will pay for a high precision pipette, one of the most crucial tools for ensuring highly accurate results in laboratory work –making sure our scientists are getting the right answers to the most important questions.
  • £500 will cover the cost of a sensitive brain scan for a patient involved in a research study, tracking the effectiveness of new drug treatments, improving diagnosis and better understanding how diseases like Alzheimer’s wreak their havoc in the brain.

We are so grateful to have been working with Giveacar and their wonderful donors since 2011, and since then we have received an incredible £43,000 in donations! Cars hold many memories and getting rid of your beloved ride can be tough, but with Giveacar it couldn’t be easier. So thank you to the Giveacar team and their customers for making breakthroughs possible in dementia research.
