Bromley Mencap

Bromley Mencap is an award winning, independent, user-led charity in the London Borough of Bromley. We were formed in 1951 by a small group of parents who came together for mutual support and to campaign for services for their children. We now have over 1,800 members and provide a wide range of services and activities for disabled people of all ages, their families and carers.

We provide a telephone advice service, childcare facilities, respite and short breaks, leisure and school holiday activities and help for older carers; to employment training and support and help in finding and sustaining jobs. We run a mutual carers project, an outdoors activity club, keep fit classes, a buddying scheme, domiciliary care, support for people with complex needs, welfare benefits advice, a micro enterprise scheme and family fun days.

Bromley Mencap’s continuous action on behalf of disabled people and their parents/carers, is based on the principle that disabled people have a need and right to live like others in the community, and to have a reasonable quality of life.

We do not receive any financial support from the national charity Mencap and have to raise over £800,000 this year just to maintain our current services.
