How to get rid of a car

Do you have a clapped out car on your drive, or just brought a new car and have been left with an old car? Do you know how to dispose of it and get it off your drive? Well the key aspect here is the age and the quality the car. If the car is of decent age, mileage and road worthy then there is a possibility of selling the car on or part exchanging for a new car. Alternatively, if the car doesn’t run or the car has suffered an accident then the car is likely to have to be scrapped and disposed of in an approved facility. It is at this point that Giveacar would be happy to help for collection and dispose of your car.

Selling a used Car

The first step to selling a used car is to either sell it to a dealer who will then sell the car on for you. Alternatively if you want to sell the car yourself then, it would be advisable to do some research as to a reasonable price for the vehicle. This would include looking through local car trading magazines, along with internet searches. Once you have established how much you would like to sell the car for, you can advertise in a number of ways. Try three out of the five suggestions that follow: 1. Place it on specialty forums, 2. Craigslist (free advertised online), 3. Newspaper classified 4. Sign in the window, 5. Word of mouth. Now you have the word out that the car is for sale, you will need to clean the car so that it looks its best for viewing. It is then up to the owners discretion as to who to sell the car to. With regards price there will be a bit of haggling due to the nature of the business and people wanting to get cars for as cheap as possible. Have a limit of the lowest value that you are happy to sell the car for; otherwise you could go lower than you are happy to.

Scrapping your car

If the car is unusable then it would require removal by a scrappage company, who will dispose of the car following legal legislations. This means to dispose of the car in the most environmentally friendly way, without damaging the ecosystem. If this is your choice of removal then you will need to contact the scrap yard yourself and organise a time to get the car picked up. This could incur a cost, depending on the company. Often they will pick up the car for free due to the income that they would produce from the scrap metal. If you don’t want the money to go to the scrap yard then why not donate the money to charity through Giveacar. The scrap metal of the car will be sold and the money will go directly to the charity of your choice. So you are scrapping your car with the added benefit of helping others.
