UNICEF
UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights, with a presence in more than 190 countries and territories reaching children on a scale like no other. We work with local communities, partners and governments to ensure every child’s right to survive and thrive is upheld.
As champion of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF works to help every child not only survive, but thrive and realise their full potential. Together with our partners, UNICEF delivers healthcare, nutrition, education and protection to children in urgent need, while working with governments to ensure they deliver on their promise to protect and promote the rights of every child.
We focus on:
• Young child survival and development
• Basic education and gender equality
• HIV/AIDS and children
• Child protection from violence, exploitation and abuse
• Policy, advocacy and partnerships for children’s rights
UNICEF was established by the United Nations in 1946, but is not funded by the UN Budget and instead relies entirely on voluntary contributions.
