Southampton City Mission

HQ Location:
Hampshire

Location of benefit:
UK only (local)

Families and individuals are refered to us by social workers, health visitors, the citizens advice bureau and other such agencies when they have no other way of feeding and clothing themselves for what ever reason. This is non judgemental and all ethnic and religious groups are catered for. We give them a bag of food to last about two weeks for the number of people in the household. We chat with them over coffee in our sofa area while the bags are being sorted according to their needs. Sometimes we pray with or for them if they wish.

We also provide assemblies and Religious education programs for schools in the city to provide the Christian content. Schools often call us in for OFSTED inspection weeks.

Southampton City Mission in the News

June 2012:SCM are very pleased to announce that a new SCM Basics Bank venue opened its doors for the first time on Friday 15th June 2012! Lordshill Ecumenical Church is the new outlet, open on Fridays, where members of local churches are working together to help those in need in their community with up to 5 days of food. This brings the number of Basics Bank venues operating across the city to 5.

This is a very exciting time for us in schools too as we continue to deliver on average two Question of Faith days and assemblies per week during the academic year.
