South West Thames Kidney Fund

HQ Location:
Surrey

Location of benefit:
UK only (nationwide)

The main purpose of the South West Thames Kidney Fund is to raise money to promote research into kidney disease, including its link with diabetes, at the S W Thames Institute for Renal Research.
Diabetes is one of the leading causes of kidney disease. High blood pressure is the second leading cause.  There are 30,000 people in the UK on dialysis or who have had kidney transplants, and there are 6,500 people waiting for transplants.
All populations and all ages are at risk.
The Research Institute specialises in laboratory based research,  primary
care research, and diagnostic research.   These varied approaches are all
aimed at improving the quality of patients’ lives by finding the causes of kidney failure, slowing down the progress, and ultimately finding a prevention for the disease.
