Charity Name: Scottish SPCA

The Scottish SPCA is Scotland’s emergency service for animals and is completely separate from the RSPCA who do amazing work in England and Wales. We have nine animal rescue and rehoming centres which care for and rehome every type of domestic animal from horses to hamsters and everything in between.

Our centres have cared for over 7,000 animals in 2022 and found over 3,000 loving new forever homes.

In addition to our animal rescue and rehoming centres, we also have a National Wildlife Rescue Centre which rehabilitates and releases wildlife. We are the only national charity who rescue and rehabilitate birds and we also care for large mammals such as seals as well as smaller wild animals such as hedgehogs, rabbits and bats. In 2022 alone we admitted nearly 5,000 animals to our wildlife hospital.

Our animal helpline is open 365 days of the year and in 2022 we received 181,231 calls. The helpline provides a vital service for the public to ask for advice on any type of animal, report their concerns regarding cases of abuse or neglect or call us to rescue sick, injured or trapped animals.

Our animal rescue officers and inspectors cover every corner of Scotland, from the Borders up to Shetland, responding to reports of animals in distress or those at risk of harm. In 2022 alone we responded to 86,078 reports of animals in need.

Since 1839, the Scottish SPCA has proudly fought to improve the lives of animals in Scotland and is the only animal charity in the UK able to report animal cruelty cases to the Crown, with reports sent to the Crown Office Procurator Fiscal Service.

We receive no government funding but, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve been able to continue our work helping animals in communities across Scotland for over 180 years.
