Rapid UK
Rescue and Preparedness in Disasters (RAPID UK) was founded in 1996 as a non-governmental organisation with charitable status. It was established to meet the needs of providing specialist search and rescue response in the aftermath of disasters and to share the knowledge and experience of its members by providing training to indigenous government and community organisations in disaster-prone countries. The organisation’s objectives, as laid down in its governing document, are:
The relief of human suffering and distress in any part of the world resulting from disaster of any kind, and the protection and preservation of human life, in particular, but not exclusively, by providing suitably trained and experienced response teams and the provision of sustainable training and mitigation programmes.
