Pancreatic Cancer Action

Pancreatic Cancer Action was set up by a rare survivor of the disease, Ali Stunt who on learning of her own diagnosis at the age of 41 was shocked at the low survival rates for the disease and was appalled that these survival rates have not changed in over 40 years. 
 
There are approx. 7600 new cases of pancreatic cancer every year in the UK and 20 people a day die from the disease.
It is the 5th commonest cause of cancer death yet receives less than 2% of total UK research funding.
 
82% of people will die within a year of diagnosis.
 
It is now time to "Change the Numbers" for pancreatic cancer
 
Ali founded Pancreatic Cancer Action, a national charity, with the express aim of raising awareness of pancreatic cancer and to educate the public and medical professionals about the disease - all with the aim that more people will be diagnosed in time for surgery - currently the only potential option for a cure. An option that is sadly only available to 10% of patients as most present with advanced disease that is inoperable.
  
Pancreatic Cancer is completely staffed by volunteers. All our work is funded through personal donations and the fundraising activities of our supporters.
 
We are currently working with pancreatic cancer specialists in order to develop:
 
Free information and publications about pancreatic cancer for patients, families and carers - so they can understand their disease, the treatment options available to them and manage the potential side effects of treatment;
 
Free Accredited (through the CPD system) Online Interactive Learning Tools for diagnosing doctors and other medical professionals to help them spot the disease earlier and manage the condition better; 
 
Pancreatic Cancer health awareness campaigns nationally and in the community;
 
Research into the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
 
All with the principle aim of improving survival rates and "Changing the Numbers" for pancreatic cancer.
