[value] => The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is the leading UK charity focusing on all muscle-wasting diseases. We are dedicated to improving the lives of over 70,000 children and adults affected by it. We do this by:
1) funding world-class research to find effective treatments and cures
2) providing practical information, advice and emotional support for individuals, their carers and families
3) campaigning to bring about change and raise awareness
4) awarding grants towards the cost of specialist equipment, such as powered wheelchairs
5) providing specialist education and development for health professionals
We rely almost entirely on voluntary donations to fund our vital work. Our internationally-renowned research programme invests up to £1m a year into more than 20 live projects, ranging from basic science to clinical trials.
We offer an advocacy service to ensure people receive the services they are entitled to, and our campaigning has led to improvements in specialist care and access at a local level (through the provision of additional NHS-funded neuromuscular care advisors).
In addition, over the past 25 years we have awarded more than £6m in grants towards the cost of over 6,000 pieces of specialist equipment for children and adults.
