Milton Keynes Mind
Milton Keynes Mind is a locally based charity, affiliated to National Mind but self funding and self governed. We have existed in Milton Keynes for 40 years, providing a range of information, advice, support and direct services to people who have experienced mental ill health, alongside working more widely within our communities to promote positive mental wellbeing.
The mission of Milton Keynes Mind is to promote positive mental health and to actively challenge the stigma and discrimination associated with mental ill health. We do this in a number of ways:
• Through information, advice and guidance to people who experience mental
ill health, their friends and families and to the wider community
• Through direct service provision, including a low cost counselling
service, therapeutic groups, social activities and other services that promote wellbeing
• Through training and information sessions to businesses, other
organisations and groups and via our website, leaflets and events
Milton Keynes Mind supports around 150 people each week through its services.
Research shows that 1 in 4 people will experience mental health difficulties over their lifetime, with 1 in 6 at any one time – in Milton Keynes, this equates to 60,000 people within the city. Whilst many will manage these difficulties with the support of GP’s, a significant number will benefit from a more in depth and structured approach.
