Leukaemia Busters are working to develop new treatments based on antibodies that attack the cancer cells directly without damaging normal cells in the patient’s body. This will represent a major improvement over today’s conventional chemotherapy where normal cells and tissues in the patient are damaged sometimes with fatal consequences and often with long term health consequences.

When Leukaemia Busters was founded by parents of children with leukaemia twenty six years ago only around six out of ten patients was cured. Today that figure stands closer to eight out of ten cured. The reason for this steady improvement is research. It will be discovery research of the type that Leukaemia Busters’ scientists undertake that will ensure further improvements that will one day soon ensure a cure for every patient with these malignant diseases.

We are working to develop new treatments based on antibodies that attack the leukaemia and lymphoma cells directly without damaging normal cells in the patient’s body. This will represent a major improvement over today’s conventional chemotherapy where normal cells and tissues in the patient are damaged sometimes with fatal consequences and often with long term health consequences.

We conduct focussed programmes of discovery research in our dedicated laboratory, The Simon Flavell Leukaemia Research Laboratory at Southampton General Hospital and work together with other scientists and doctors both at home and abroad. Working with others collaboratively is essential to making progress and allows us to draw on other expertise and achieve our objectives that more quickly.

We promise never to squander money but will always spend donations we receive in the most effective way to achieve our research objectives.
