Headway Thames Valley
Headway Thames Valley is an independent charity affiliated to Headway UK. Its base is now well established in Henley with satellites in Reading and Wokingham. There are 9 Trustees, 11 staff, 5 clinical professionals and 30 volunteers. Together they increase awareness of brain injury and provide slow stream neurological rehabilitation and family support throughout the Thames Valley.
Close contact is maintained with the neuro-rehabilitation ward in the Royal
Berkshire Hospital; our part-time consultants and senior therapists gained their experience there. Their valuable skills are making a huge difference to the progress of clients.
Acquired brain injury can occur at any time through accident or illness and the effects can last a lifetime. However, it is often possible to make dramatic progress after NHS care and rehab has finished. In addition, a lot of our work involves maintaining progress already made, improving social contact and the quality of life for those with brain injury and their families.
