Amasango – changing the lives of South Africa’s street children through education
Amasango Career School works to provide access to education to some of South Africa’s most vulnerable children. Through education these young people have the opportunity to take control of their lives and build a better future for themselves and future generations.
The school is registered as a special needs school, so the teachers are funded by the South African Government. However, access to teachers and books is not enough to educate a hungry, neglected and often traumatised child. Friends of Amasango is a registered charity in the UK (number 1116268) committed to providing funding and volunteer support to the Amasango Career School. This gives the Amasango kids access to food, clothing, toiletries and in some cases shelter so they are freed from the need to beg on the streets and are able to attend school. Friends of Amasango also provides past pupil support to Amasango kids who graduate into mainstream High Schools. The benefits of the charity’s work are thus self-sustaining and permanent.
