Ferne Animal Sanctuary strives to provide care and refuge for unwanted domestic and farm animals. The Sanctuary rehomes dogs and cats within a 30 mile radius of Ferne. Some horses and ponies are available for permanent loan; all other animals remain at the Sanctuary for the rest of their lives.
The Sanctuary relies entirely on donations and legacies to continue its work.
Some of the animals come to Ferne because they have been neglected or are no longer wanted. Others come to us because of circumstantial changes of their owners.

LEGACIES that people have left in their Will to Ferne Animal Sanctuary have enhanced and secured the lives of the many animals in its care Legacies have funded the dogs day shelter, cattery and kitten room, the tortoise run and so much more.

The nature trail, dragon fly ponds and conservation area all add to the peace and tranquillity at Ferne. Ferne Animal Sanctuary near Chard is set in 51 acres of glorious Somerset countryside, high in the Blackdown Hills. The nature trail, dragon fly ponds, Lilly ponds and conservation area add to the peace and tranquillity offered at Ferne. There is an array of beautiful wildlife for the nature lover to enjoy. We also have orchids, lichen and numerous fungi which can be seen at various times of year.

Wild animals can also at times been seen at Ferne and include Frogs, Toads, Badgers, Foxes, Deer, Grass Snakes, Newts, butterflies , bees and much more!

Visit us for free and experience the tranquillity and beauty of the glorious Somerset Countryside in which Ferne Animal Sanctuary is situated.
Home to 300 unwanted animals, set in 51 acres, there is a nature trail, picnic area and animals to see from chipmunks to donkeys.
The majority of the Sanctuary is wheelchair friendly. There are disabled toilets and baby changing facilities.
Dogs are welcome (on short leads)
Open daily 9am - 5pm (except Christmas Day and New Years Day) The Restaurant and Tea room is open 9am - 5 pm (except Christmas and New Years Day) Guided Tours, Coaches and Groups are welcome by prior arrangement Find us near Chard in Somerset, one and a half miles off the A30 main road.
Remember - entrance is free! (But we need your generous donation to help towards the upkeep of the animals).
