Families Need Fathers

Families Need Fathers is firstly a social care organisation, helping parents whose children’s relationship with them is under threat. We offer information, advice and support services for parents on how to do the best for their children. This can be at local volunteer-run branch meetings, where legal self-help advice is shared, over our helpline, open 6-10pm every weekday evening, or on our extensive, long-established website forums.
Divorce and separation affects 1 in 4 families, and our services are needed more than ever to help the parents involved in contact situations to continue to both have a meaningful, loving relationship with their child.
Families Need Fathers also lobbies for change in legal and social attitudes. We have regular contact with politicians, the judiciary and the media.  Our immediate priorities include getting court orders for shared residence and replacing adversarial court hearings over children-matters with child-centred discussion and mediation.
We depend on the generous donations of our supporters to continue our work: to answer as many calls to our helpline as possible; to support the work of our branch volunteers; to keep our website and forums running. For many parents, sometimes even those who have paid for extensive legal advice, Families Need Fathers is a vital lifeline of shared experience and practical and emotional support, helping to bring about the best possible outcome for their children.
