Disability Sports Coach

Disability Sports Coach is the only charity providing inclusive weekly sports activities for disabled people in London, and is dedicated to providing regular sport and physical activity opportunities for disabled people. Our main objectives are to maximise access and provision of disabled sports across the UK, while raising awareness of local sporting opportunities for disabled people and the wider community.

Since our formation in 2005, we have coached over 60,000 disabled people, trained 6,000 sports coaches across 300 courses and established a network of 14 Community Clubs in 13 London Boroughs.

One of our key priorities is to increase the number of disabled people, of all ages, taking part in regular physical activity and sport. According to Sport England, only 17.2% of disabled people play sport once a week – half as much as non-disabled people. Disabled people are also twice as likely to be physically inactive (43%), compared with non-disabled people (21%). To combat this, our Community Clubs provide vital weekly exercise sessions during term-time. Each is run by a specialist coach trained in delivering a range of adapted and inclusive activities such as football, cricket and Boccia. Combined with coaching at schools and community organisations, we have delivered over 5,000 hours of physical activity to disabled people in the last three years.

As the only charity providing inclusive weekly sports activities for disabled people in London, we have made a life-changing impact to disabled adults and children across London, who would otherwise be excluded from activities in their local area. The close relationships we have established with our members puts us in a unique position to identify the challenges faced by disabled people, ensuring we continue to provide our life-changing services so disabled people in the local community enjoy an active and socially rewarding life.
