CoMA
CoMA works throughout the UK to promote participation in contemporary music for musicians of all abilities. This is achieved through commissioning new works from leading composers and running a range of activities enabling amateur musicians to play these works.
When CoMA was founded in 1993, very little contemporary repertoire was within the technical grasp of non-professional musicians. CoMA embarked upon an unprecedented programme of repertoire creation by commissioning leading composers to write new works specifically for performance by amateurs without any compromise in artistic standards.
Diana Burrell, Phil Cashian, Tansy Davies, Michael Finnissy, Jonathan Harvey, Stephen Montague, Michael Nyman and John Tavener are just a few of the composers who have written for CoMA.
CoMA runs a network of contemporary music groups plus various one-off projects and allcomers events. Through its library and publications CoMA promotes its repertoire to other amateur ensembles and schools.
