Staff from the Civil Service Retirement Fellowship hit Whitehall on a sponsored walk to support their telephone befriending scheme
June 2012: Staff from the Civil Service Retirement Fellowship completed a 12 mile sponsored walk around Westminster and Whitehall in June to help raise funds to maintain and expand their Telephone Befriending initiative.
Their Buddy scheme launched at the beginning of this year as part of our ongoing commitment to help combat loneliness or social isolation is simple – it matches phone ‘buddies’ to those wanting a call with the regularity and frequency of calls being determined by both parties. It has attracted a lot of interest from serving and retired civil servants who are already participating.
