CHICKS

CHICKS provide free respite breaks for disadvantaged children from all over UK. In October 2011 CHICKS hope to celebrate taking their 9,000th child on camp since they began in 1992. This year CHICKS aim to help 1,200 children with a free respite break, spending six days at one of their retreats in Devon or Cornwall. The children CHICKS care for are aged 8 to 15 and come from a variety of backgrounds. Many have been abused, live in poverty, or have been neglected. Others live in care or are themselves young carers.

What they have in common is the desperate need to create some positive childhood memories, to be listened to, and to have the kind of fun that all children deserve. Every child gets the total attention of fully trained supervisors, and are made to feel cared for and valued. The charity receives no government funding and relies solely on the generosity of individuals, organisations, community groups, trusts and foundations.
