[value] => We are a registered charity (1102525) who covers the Metropolitan Borough of Bury and our remit is to enhance the social and emotional quality of life for all visually impaired people in the area. This is done through offering an advice service based at our Resource Centre. Here we also have specialist & adapted equipment available to try out and purchase at cost. We have a home visiting service, befriending scheme and many social groups & activities. The society was formed in 1922 offering social functions for visually impaired people and in 1994 we became established with extended more formalised services, premises, staff, volunteers and a committee (trustees). We are an independent local charity not linked to any larger regional or national charity. 85% of our members are also over 65 and have additional needs due to age related issues.
