[value] => Bega kwa Bega supports some of Uganda's 2.5 million orphans while they remain
in their own homes and villages.
In order to ensure these orphans retain their home and their relationships
with extended family, we work to provide for all their needs and the needs of
their communities through these six linked projects:
1. Ensuring the children's legal rights to their homes and land.
2. Providing clean, available water (Protected Springs and
Bore Holes) To date 105 have been constructed. Each
well serves on average 1.5 thousand people.
3. Operating a mobile clinic which visits remote villages. Last
year 16,250 patients were treated. However, medicines
often run out as funds do, and hold ups are frequent as
the van used to transport 3 nurses, two are also
midwives, and the dispenser, is ancient and tends to be
somewhat unreliable.
4. Training in organic agriculture. We have set up an organic
demonstration farm for this purpose
5. Training in business methods to bring about Income
Generation: poultry and pig rearing; retail shops . . .
6. Education: Sponsors to pay for school materials and
lunches. Without these funds children cannot go to school.

[value] => SPECIAL APPEAL: 4 WHEEL TOYOTA NEEDED
16,250 patients were treated in the past 12 months,
not in a GP's surgery in the UK but in Uganda in small
villages reached in a well over 20 year old van, only
too frequently breaking down and leaving 3 nurses, a
pharmacist and a driver in the lurch, not to mention
the patients waiting for the only medical help they have
ever been given.
We are wasting precious resources on this van. The only
answer is a new or second-hand van which can withstand
the terrain and reach these patients with reliability.
We have £8,000 towards a target of £28,000 for a new
4 wheel Toyota.
PLEASE HELP
