[value] => The young people we support come from all areas of the city and all different backgrounds but have one thing in common – they have been
let down badly by adults in their short lives. Our volunteers take the
children out twice a month and give them a few hours of fun away from their chaotic and often depressing living circumstances. Many of the children we support have never been to the beach; have not enjoyed a day trip to a local park or even eaten with a knife and fork in a restaurant. We aim to address this problem and give the young people a chance to experience what most of us take for granted. There is also a strong element of social education behind the service, with many of our Befrienders choosing to take the children to the museum, swimming or on nature walks. The activities all have benefits to the child ranging from increasing self-confidence and building trust, to extending their horizons and improving their health.
[summary] => The charity is Aberdeen’s own and Scotland’s oldest befriending service offering 1:1 support for children aged 5+. Founded by Aberdonians, run by Aberdonians for the children of Aberdeen, we strive to make a difference to some of the most vulnerable, deprived, needy and disadvantaged children in our community.

Befriend a Child
The young people we support come from all areas of the city and all different backgrounds but have one thing in common – they have been
let down badly by adults in their short lives.
