Art in the Park was founded in 1996 as an artist-led
organisation that encouraged and helped people within the community to use
various art forms to enhance their relationship with the built environment in
which they lived, worked, learned and played.

Working in partnership with numerous schools, hospitals, community etc., it quickly gained a reputation for leading innovative projects that helped people transform their environment and saw it expand its reach throughout London. Indeed, in 1999
Art in the Park was part of a team that was shortlisted for the commission to
create the Kensington Gardens Memorial Playground in tribute to Diana,
Princess of Wales.

It has continued to provide opportunities to involve people of all ages in unique, challenging, educational and rewarding work within the community that has enriched the lives of thousands. These projects have ranged from transforming derelict infrastructure (such as transforming the derelict railway John Bull Arch on Southwark Park Road) to utilising unused space (such as creating the Zen Garden at West Middlesex Hospital). Both projects were imaginative collaborations between community groups, schools and business – strengthening the ties within communities we live!
