We ensure that communities have the knowledge, skills and means to maintain their good health and break the cycle of poor health and poverty.

We reach, respect and become part of communities and help them make change from within. We do this by:

• Supporting communities others cannot or do not reach

• Creating conditions for health, catalysing the hidden but real energies within communities

• Championing women who are at the heart of their family’s and community’s health

AMREF has been working for over 50 years to bring good quality health care closer to those who need it most – improving access to health care services and preventing poor health through community education.

We work with local communities to make sure our projects are sustainable and are appropriate to their specific environment and local cultural beliefs.

AMREF’s Flying Doctor Emergency Service runs 24/7, 365 days a year. As well as our emergency service, we schedule hundreds of outreach clinics which visit rural district hospitals, where AMREF staff will perform lifesaving operations and deliver training to local health workers.
