Action on Hearing Loss Scotland

HQ Location:
Glasgow

Location of benefit:
UK only (local)

Action on Hearing Loss Scotland is the leading organisation representing deaf people, hard of hearing people and people with tinnitus. Hearing loss is a major public health issue in Scotland, with 850,000 people affected by some form of hearing loss – that’s one in six of the population. As our society ages the numbers are set to grow to more than 1.2 million by 2031 and it’s likely to affect all of us either directly or through someone we know.

Action on Hearing Loss Scotland works to create a world where deafness or hearing loss do not limit or determine opportunity, and where people value their hearing. We work by campaigning and lobbying, raising awareness of hearing loss, promoting hearing health, providing services and through social, medical and technical research.

We:

• Provide support to people with hearing loss, deafness and tinnitus through home visits to some of the most vulnerable isolated people in our society
• Provide information and practical support e.g. product demonstrations
• Support people at work and at home to help them communicate with family, friends and colleagues
• Provide support on employment skills and training and supporting people into further or higher education

All our services are delivered in partnership with, and with the support of, local hospital audiology departments. There are a total of 519,000 people wearing hearing aids in Scotland 384,500 of those are retirement age, that’s 74%.

Action on Hearing Loss Scotland’s work with deaf and hard of hearing people through new or existing projects is only possible with funding support.
