By admin

Giveacar is the first independent scrap car donation scheme in the UK. Now that we have been around for seven months, we are happy to say that things are going very well. If you look at our list of charities, you will see that it expands on a daily basis. The UK public is beginning to understand that scrap cars, can really make a difference, and charities are reaping the rewards. Have a look at our core charities, and you'll notice that we count the likes of Cancer Research UK, Keep Britain Tidy, and Railway Children amongst our affiliated charities....

Later this year, Giveacar might try to lobby the government, through a local MP. We are doing everything we can to build this concept, approaching both public and private bodies. Slowly but surely, we are laying the foundations for an industry that will benefit the charity sector for years to come. If you are reading this Mr Cameron (unlikely I know), why not give us a boost and give us a tax break – you’ll be doing the world a favour!

Car donation in the UK is an under-developed concept. In the USA, the idea of donating a car is much more prevalent. There is a simple reason for this – people are able to claim back tax against the value of their car. Imagine if this tax break was introduced in the UK. Scrap car donation could become a multi-million pound industry, and car donation would be catapulted to a position where it could do so much good. Personally, I cannot see the UK government offering such a tax incentive in this economic climate, but we can only hope. Later this year, Giveacar might try to lobby the government, through a local MP. We are doing everything we can to build this concept, approaching both public and private bodies. Welcome to the Giveacar blog…where one car really can make a difference

By admin

One morning, when I was about 5, I opened the door of my grandmother’s house and there was a huge frog sitting on the doorstep. My grandma (who had been reading too many bedtime stories) told me that if I kissed the frog it would turn into a prince. So, I bent down, closed my eyes and leaned in….   Let’s just say that the magic didn’t happen.  ...

Let’s just say that the magic didn’t happen.

But at Giveacar, magic really does happen. Who would have thought that the rusting scrap car sitting in your drive could make a wish come true for a child with a life-threatening illness through the Rays of Sunshine Charity? Or help Cancer Research continue their groundbreaking work in the fight against cancer?

If you have ever wanted to make a difference, donating your scrap car to charity through Giveacar is an easy way to do so, and it won’t cost you a penny! On our new improved website, you can find loads of information about the amazing charities we are already working with, and how the Giveacar service works.

For those of you with an environmental conscience, you’ll also be pleased to know that Giveacar recycles all scrap cars at Authorised Treatment Facilities that have a minimum recycling target of 85% of the weight of the car. Which means the planet is happy too : )

So whether your car has failed its MOT, you want to scrap your rusty car and get one better than your neighbour, or you are moving abroad, donate your car to Giveacar and make some magic happen!

End of the Month = More Cars

By admin

Given that Giveacar has been operating for under a year, it would be silly to suggest we know the car salvage market inside out. Giveacar is, after all, a company that operates in the charity sector, and we consider the car salvage element secondary to that. We are however, beginning to pick up some inconsistencies in the scrap car demand pattern. Now that it is coming towards the end of the month, we start to get loads of phone calls from people asking whether they can donate a car which has tax expiring at the end of the month....

Now that it is coming towards the end of the month, we start to get loads of phone calls from people asking whether they can donate a car which has tax expiring at the end of the month. Having spoken to scrap yards up and down the country, it seems this is a common pattern throughout the industry. This is great for us, as we can look forward to a bumper week at the end of the month, which gives a late boost to the monthly tally.

We’ll be blogging on more demand patterns throughout the year, and will discuss the effect that the car scrappage scheme had on the market. For now though, have a look at your colleague’s cars parked in your office, or look at your neighbours cars parked on your street. If you see one with an expiring tax disc – tell them about Giveacar and we’ll be here to help.
